Daniel Floyd

My name is Daniel Floyd. I’m a husband, father, and high school chemistry teacher. I’ve been training at Old School Jiu Jitsu since February of 2023. I’m a white belt and a coach for the youth fundamentals class.

I originally began practicing jiu jitsu as a way to improve my skills in self defense. And while I’ve certainly grown in that area, I’ve also come to realize that this sport has much more to offer.

Quickly into my training I realized that, in addition to being super fun, jiu jitsu is both highly demanding and complex. This sport requires significant levels of discipline, humility, and focus to succeed. Moreover, it requires a community of mentors and teammates that are willing to invest in your growth.

Turns out, the keys to success in jiu jitsu are similar to those for everyday life.

Looking back, I can clearly see that the community and character development I’ve gained from jiu jitsu have directly translated to widespread benefits in my life outside the gym. I couldn’t be more grateful for the privilege to train with such amazing people at Old School Jiu Jitsu.

I highly recommend this life-changing sport to anyone who wants to participate in a supportive community while improving themselves in both body and virtue.
